A height adjustable desk isn’t just a gadget. It’s a way to make your workspace fit you instead of the other way around. Whether you’re working from home, creating music, or building something by hand, learning how to get the most out of it can completely change how you feel at your desk.
If you’re thinking about one for your home or office, get in touch and we’ll help you plan the right setup.
Find Your Ideal Height
Start with the basics. When sitting, your elbows should rest at roughly a 90-degree angle, your screen should be at eye level, and your feet should sit flat on the floor or a footrest. When standing, keep your knees soft and your shoulders relaxed.
All our height adjustable desks use smooth, quiet electric lifts that let you fine-tune your height easily. Most people sit between 70cm and 75cm and stand between 105cm and 115cm, but the beauty of adjustability is finding what actually feels best for you.
Alternate Through the Day
Standing all day isn’t the goal, moving is. Try alternating between sitting and standing every 30 to 60 minutes. You’ll keep your energy steady and avoid the stiffness that comes from staying in one position too long.
A quick win is saving your four most used heights using the desk’s memory settings so you can switch between them with a single button.
Keep Your Setup Comfortable
Posture is about more than height. Keep your screen roughly at eye level and your wrists straight while typing. If you need more space or better angles, add a monitor shelf to lift your screens or speakers. For typing or playing, a sliding keyboard tray keeps everything at the right level and frees up space on the desktop.
We also offer cable management trays and cable holes so you can keep wires out of sight and your workspace feeling calm.
Studio Desks with Height Adjustable Legs
Our studio desks take all of this a step further. Because they’re two-tiered, height adjustable legs make an even bigger difference. We use a slightly different model with a wider height range and additional weight capacity, so you can work comfortably whether sitting, standing or somewhere in between and with all of your studio equipment loaded on your desk.
At the standard sitting height of around 71cm, you can play your piano or MIDI keyboard on the lower tier while keeping good posture. Lowering to around 60cm lets you use the top desktop comfortably for typing or editing. You can also raise it higher when you want to stand up while recording or mixing. It’s a small change that makes long sessions easier on your body and more natural overall.
For Creative or Practical Work
Height adjustable desks aren’t just for computer work. If you draw, craft, or do any hands-on work, being able to set the desk somewhere between sitting and standing height can be a real game changer. Around 86cm (countertop height) tends to suit most people for creative work, offering enough height to lean comfortably without hunching.
Keep It Moving
Your desk is meant to move with you. Change the height throughout the day, tilt your screen slightly, and rearrange your setup now and then. Small adjustments keep your body relaxed and help you make the most of the flexibility you’ve invested in.
At Pastos & Co, we make every height adjustable desk to order and can include add-ons like monitor shelves, sliding keyboard trays and cable management options to suit your setup. If you’re planning a new workspace or want to upgrade your current one, get in touch and we’ll help you get it right.
