What Makes a “Real Wood” Desk Different

We use slow-grown, sustainably sourced pine from responsibly managed forests. Slow-grown pine develops tighter grain patterns, giving it greater strength and stability with fewer natural defects. The result is a solid, dependable surface that resists warping and remains stable for years.
Every board is kiln dried and planed all around for a smooth, stable finish. The drying process brings the wood to the ideal indoor humidity level, which helps prevent movement when room temperature changes.
Finished to Last and to Breathe
Once each piece has been shaped, joined, and sanded, we finish it with a water-based stain and varnish that lets the wood breathe while protecting it from spills and stains. The finish cures to a waterproof, stain-resistant surface, so you can wipe away coffee rings or splashes with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner.
Water-based varnishes require far less maintenance than oil or wax finishes and are much more robust in everyday use. They allow the natural feel of the wood to come through while staying hypoallergenic, non-toxic, and eco-friendly. They’re also better for indoor air quality, which makes them ideal for home and studio environments.
Unlike synthetic laminates, this finish doesn’t trap the wood beneath plastic. It allows subtle expansion and contraction with the seasons, helping your desk age naturally and beautifully over time.
