Shopping for Handmade Furniture This Black Friday or Holiday Season? Here’s What to Know

Posted by Johnny Pastos on

As the big Black Friday countdowns start again, it’s easy to get caught up in the rush for “once-a-year deals.” But if you’ve followed us for a while, you’ll know that at Pastos & Co we don’t do Black Friday. Our prices stay fair and consistent all year round because they’re based on real costs, not on mark-ups and markdowns.

We always offer the best price we can afford while ensuring fair wages for everyone involved, from our team in Brighton to our suppliers. Every desk, dining table and shelf is made to order by hand. That means our prices reflect the time, skill and materials that go into each one.

If you’re planning a custom piece or want something ready before Christmas, get in touch and we’ll help you plan your order in time and make sure everything runs smoothly.

Why Timing Matters

Our lead times for larger designs like dining tables and desks are around three to five weeks, depending on the current order list. Every piece is built from scratch, cut, sanded, finished and packed by our small team of makers.

As we get closer to Black Friday and the holiday season, courier delays are more common, and that part of the process is out of our control. What we can do is make sure everything leaves our workshop as early as possible to avoid disappointment and give your order the best chance of arriving in time.

Our Christmas cut-off is usually around the last week of November or the first week of December, depending on how busy the workshop is. Orders placed after that are still made with the same care, but they will be dispatched after the team returns in the new year.

We’ll be taking a short break from 24 December to 2 January, and any remaining orders will be dispatched after the 2nd.

Fair Prices, Year Round

We keep our pricing simple and transparent. When our material costs drop, we pass those savings straight on. If we benefit from a discounted price on materials or services we use, our customers do too. What we don’t do is push anyone in our supply chain or our team to be undervalued for the sake of running a sale.

When costs rise, we adjust only as much as we need to. That way, our prices stay honest and sustainable. We know it’s not the flashiest way to do things, but it’s one we can stand by. You can be sure that the price you see is the fairest one we can offer, every time.

How to Support Small Businesses This Season

If you want to support small workshops and makers this holiday season, there are a few ways that make a real difference.

Order early. Small businesses don’t have warehouses full of stock. Giving us time helps us do our best work.
Reach out directly. If you’re unsure about something, message the maker before you buy. That’s what we’re here for.
Be patient with couriers. Once a parcel leaves the workshop, it’s out of our hands. A bit of patience goes a long way during December.
Leave a review. Kind feedback helps others find us and keeps small teams motivated through long workshop days.

Thank You

Every order, message and kind review genuinely keeps our workshop going. We’re incredibly grateful for the people who choose to buy from small makers like us, people who believe that furniture should be made properly, with care and respect for the materials.

If you’re planning a custom desk, dining table or other handmade furniture this Christmas, get in touch and we’ll help you get everything ready in time and make sure it’s built to last for years to come.
